Pioneer has launched, after intense preflight rehearsal checks, things are going really well. We’ve visited Cambridge and Brighton so far and the response has been extremely positive.
Any job has different positive things to take away. On this one, it seems to be the cast and team. I absolutely love everyone and feel bereft in the gaps between the tour stops. I’m dreading the post-show blues on this one, it’s going to hit me fucking hard. But that’s months away, for now I’ll enjoy the show and I hope you will too.
It’s exciting times. Not just because the International Space Exploration Forum have agreed to launch a manned mission to Mars in the decade 2030, but because I’m currently in rehearsals for a play about that.
“Pioneer” is a sci-fi thriller set in the near future. I play Rudi Van der Waal, American, scientist, rookie.
Listen, I think you’re really going to like this one so here’s where we’re touring to...

Dudley Rees is an actor and director living in London. This blog is his online scrapbook, a place to explore the big questions of theatre - note down the good times and complain about the terrible, slow, agonising times.
Some entries will be more technical than others but hopefully all will be reasonably entertaining. At least as entertaining as the film, "Chappie".
